Japan’s number 1 ryokan for 36 consecutive years - KAGAYA is the setting for The Japanese Hospitality Challenge. Foreigners take on the Nakai training at this famous Japanese ryokan. More than 100 prospective women from 25 countries and regions apply to be a part of this challenge to learn about Japan's finest hospitality. Six women of different roots and occupations are chosen from among them. -- Emilie, an exchange student from the U.S. who is interested in traditional Japanese culture; Ana, has come from Mexico to live with her Japanese husband; Blanca, has come all the way from Spain to pursue her dream of becoming a geisha; Sitora, from Uzbekistan, is studying cross-cultural communication at university; Christine, from the Philippines, is the editor-in-chief of a travel magazine and mother to her 11 year old daughter; and Pei Chen, from Taiwan, who is multilingual and living a working life in Japan. After the orientation in Tokyo, the six of them depart for Kagaya. They begin their journey, excited about the Nakai training ahead and anxious whether they will be able to perform to the standard expected at Kagaya. When they finally arrive at Kagaya, they will be met with an Omotenashi which they did not expect.
